Welcome welcome welcome to July guys or also known as Disability Pride Month. To kick off the month right let’s get to know the background and reason behind it.
Disability Pride Month is based on the (ADA) American Disabilities Act signed on July 26, 1990. The (ADA) is a Civil Rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas. With jobs, schools, transportation, etc. The main purpose of this law is to give the same rights and equal opportunities to disabled individuals.
DisabilityPrideMonth is based on being proud of who you are and accepting yourself. You and your disability are valid, acknowledged, and seen. During the month try to start embracing your identity or being neutral with it. Because you deserve to exist and to be happy with who you are. This month helps to create a safe and more inclusive environment mainly helping other disabled people to meet a larger community that makes them feel at ease, and safe and makes you feel that you can just exist that you can just be. And just like Pride month it has a flag. A lot of neurodivergent people are also lgbtq+.
This month is simply a reminder to start including more disabled individuals’ voices. Whether it be in discussions or about media. Start bringing more neurodivergent and disabled people into the conversation.
What would pride be without a flag? Such as this one created by Ann Magill to represent different disabilities with each stripe.

Green: Sensory disabilities
Blue: Emotional or psychiatric disabilities
White: People with invisible or undiagnosed disabilities
Yellow or gold: Neurodiversity
Red: Physical disabilities

You ATE with this article! I didn’t even know there was a separate month for lgbtq peeps with disabilities. It’s pretty cool to know this now,and what parts of the flag stands for. I really like it 😀
